In this talk I wi ll present our recent work developing and applying trait-based theory. Fir st\, I will give an overview of trait-based approaches to modeling ecologi cal and eco-evolutionary dynamics and how they can enhance our understandi ng of community structure and ecosystem functioning. Then I will give exam ples of how they can be applied to complex spatially and temporally varyin g systems\, including seasonally and directionally changing environments. Finally\, I will describe recent theory on how local selection and immigra tion from the regional species pool interact to determine distribution of commonness and rarity in ecological communities and an experimental test. \n DTSTART:20211123T170000Z DTEND:20211123T180000Z LOCATION:CA\, QC SUMMARY:QLS Seminar Series - Chris Klausmeier URL:/qls/channels/event/qls-seminar-series-chris-klaus meier-335011 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
