When making decision s in an uncertain world\, humans regularly have to balance the motivations to choose familiar\, rewarding options (i.e.\, ‘exploiting’)\, versus the need to learn about novel options with an unknown incentive value (i.e.\, ‘exploring’). This talk will dive deep into research being conducted in m y laboratory on the neural computations that help humans and other primate s manage this ‘explore-exploit’ tradeoff. Additionally\, I will highlight recent work from the laboratory illustrating how brain injury\, alcohol us e disorder\, and noninvasive brain stimulation can modulate these computat ions.\n\nBio: Jeremy hails from Toronto\, Ontario\, and is now an Assistan t Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of New Mexic o. Before joining UNM\, he completed a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at Wi lfrid Laurier University in Waterloo\, Ontario\, and postdoctoral training at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and the MIND Institu te at the University of California\, Davis. Jeremy’s research aims to use brain imaging to understand the neural circuitry underpinning emotion and decision making\, their role in health and disease\, and the potential imp act of targeted noninvasive stimulation of these circuits.\n\n\nThe Feinde l Virtual Brain and Mind (VBM) Seminar Series will advance the vision of D r. William Feindel (1918–2014)\, Former Director of the Neuro (1972–1984)\ , to constantly bridge the clinical and research realms. The talks will hi ghlight the latest advances and discoveries in neuropsychology\, cognitive neuroscience\, and neuroimaging.\n\nSpeakers will include scientists from across The Neuro\, as well as colleagues and collaborators locally and fr om around the world. The series is intended to provide a virtual forum for scientists and trainees to continue to foster interdisciplinary exchanges on the mechanisms\, diagnosis and treatment of brain and cognitive disord ers.\n DTSTART:20220525T200000Z DTEND:20220525T210000Z SUMMARY:Feindel Virtual Brain and Mind Lecture Series:Explore-Exploit Decis ion Making: Mechanisms & Pathology URL:/neuro/channels/event/feindel-virtual-brain-and-mi nd-lecture-seriesexplore-exploit-decision-making-mechanisms-pathology-3396 67 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
