91导航视频 Desautels undergraduate students Aaron Anandji (BCom鈥�25) and Zacharie Faucillion (BCom鈥�23), Co-Executive Directors of 91导航视频 Ventures, took second place at Baylor University鈥檚 Hankamer School of Business鈥� National Undergraduate Negotiation Competition (NUNC) this April.
BCom graduate Julia Ayim named Black Grad 2023 valedictorian
One of this year鈥檚 three Black Grad valedictorians, Julia Ayim (BCom鈥�23) has just completed a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Strategic Management and Organizational Behaviour at the Desautels Faculty of Management. She and fellow graduates were celebrated at the annual Black Grad gala on April 30, a sold-out event organized by the Black Students鈥� Network of 91导航视频 (BSN).
Anita Nowak鈥檚 book Purposeful Empathy helps reviewer understand generation gaps in climate crisis impact
To understand the impact of the climate crisis on younger generations, empathy is a place to start. It is a necessary part of confronting, but on its own, it is not enough. Desautels lecturer Anita Nowak (BA'97, BCom'97, PhD'11) recently published her book聽Purposeful Empathy, which is described as聽an inspiring and powerful read by Quebec MNA D茅sir茅e McGraw in a review for Policy Magazine.

Each year, the 91导航视频 Desautels African Business Initiative (DABI) brings together attendees, panelists and guest speakers for an opportunity to learn, network and engage in stimulating discussions about the future of business in Africa. This year鈥檚 panelists included Sekou Coulibaly (BCom鈥�03), who was executive director at L鈥橭r茅al before launching a sustainable, made-in-Africa luxury clothing brand called SEKBI Bogolan in 2020.

After months of hard work and 'brandstorming', two 91导航视频 teams took the podium at the 31st annual L'Or茅al Brandstorm National Competition in Canada, competing against top teams from across the country. BCom students Laetitia Doumet, Jo-Esther Abou Haidar and Andrea Salem (far right) placed 2nd, while Master of Management in Retailing (MMR) students Madison Laxer, Aditi Bali and Supreet Kaur (far left) took 3rd place.

91导航视频 Desautels continues its hot streak in the case competition arena with another podium result, placing 2nd overall in the prestigious 2023 Copenhagen Business School Invitational Case competition. 12 schools flew to Copenhagen and were challenged to help Vestas, a leading company in wind power plant solutions, leverage its position to create new businesses in hydrogen technologies and develop a strategy for 2030.
Desautels alum record label achieves critical successes
For Jim West (BA鈥�79) and Justin West (BCom鈥�04), the music industry is a family affair. From a young age, Justin accompanied his father to industry conferences, and during his teenage years, he spent the summers working for his father鈥檚 record label: Justin Time Records. The younger West graduated from Desautels with a degree in accounting, but ultimately followed in his father鈥檚 footsteps. In 2006, he launched a label called Secret City Records.

In 2021, thanks to the generosity of alumnus Don Lewtas, we saw the launch of the Lewtas Office of Experiential Learning. Since the office鈥檚 inception, the team at the Lewtas Office,聽led by Leigh Korey, PhD, has been hard at work creating powerful hands-on learning opportunities that play a vital role in the student journey.

Faculty alumnus and Provincial Finance Minister now responsible for relations with English-speaking Quebecers
Quebec鈥檚 Finance Minister, Eric Girard (BCom鈥�89) recently added the portfolio of Minister Responsible for Relations with English-Speaking Quebecers to his responsibilities. This makes him a key voice on Bill 96, the French-language bill passed by the Coalition Avenir Quebec government in 2022.
